NABE HOT-POT COMPETITION RESULTS

Last month we invited readers to tell us their favourite five fish for our ever-popular nabe hot pot.

We are delighted to announce that Alex won the prize for his entry of plaice, lemon sole, hake, pollack and sea bass.

Why were these deemed so worthy of the top spot? Well, firstly they are all white fish, and a traditional nabe will always have a good showing of white fish (although some of the other suggestions such as oyster also work very well).

Alas, our readers’ most popular requests of salmon and tuna rarely make appearances in a nabe in Japan.

We also liked Alex’s selection as all the species are local to our Cornish fisherman and, when caught the way Chris Bean catches them, they are all marine-friendly.

A big THANK YOU to everyone who contributed their top nabe choices.
